Part B
Concerns about the issue of multi-culture have been brought about recently by the general public, let alone those experts or scholars in academic circles. Just like what is described by the cartoon, a huge hot pot contains quite a number of “ingredients”—Chinese Gongfu, Post-modernization, Peking Opera, Enlightenment, Lao She (a famous Chinese writer), Shakespeare, and so on. These “ingredients”—modern or ancient, home or abroad—obviously symbolize the various kinds of cultures which we can “taste” anywhere anytime。
This social phenomenon illustrated by the cartoon is obviously the result of globalization and the opening to the outside world policy. Now almost everyone in this world, in a sense, is exposed to a huge amount of information, including various cultures in different nations. According to a recent survey made by NOB, a polling organization in Shanghai, about 92% of foreigners who come to China say that they love traditional Chinese culture and 84% of young people, especially those in colleges or universities, say that they celebrate Christmas and Valentine’s Day. It is a convincing evidence that globalization can promote cultural exchange. We are lucky enough to live in this colorful world with different cultures, just like the nutritional cultural “hot pot”。
Accordingly, it can be predicted that with the further development of society, the blending of various cultures will become even more obvious. And as global villagers, we can enjoy more colorful cultures in the near future。
