Chronic pain is a major health issue in human society caused mainly by tissue or nerve injury. The common pathological conditions include spontaneous pain, allodynia and hyperalgesia. Peripheral sensitization and central plasticity are likely to contribute to chronic pain. The long-term change of the synaptic transmission induced by chronic pain has been studied along the sensory pathway, from the periphery receptors, spinal cord to the anterior cingulate cortex. Different approaches will be employed to investigate the neuronal mechanism mediating the maintenance of chronic pain.

Research interests
1.The temporal processing of information in central nervous system.
The central nervous system is one of the most important parts of human. The neurons in central nervous system process information from peripheral nervous system. The temporal properties of spikes carry critical information, which has been found to be involved in the brain function under normal and disease condition. My group will combine different approach to investigate how the temporal summation of information coding is involved in the brain function.
2.The energy metabolism of central nervous system under chronic pain condition.
Human brain imaging results suggest that the energy metabolism of pain related areas was changed under chronic pain condition. However, the cellular and molecular mechanism mediating this change kept unclear. Energy metabolism has been proved to be involved in the maintenance of long-term memory, which shed a light that the energy metabolism is important for the maintenance of chronic pain, we therefore plan to combine different approaches to investigate the related mechanism mediating the change of energy metabolism under chronic pain condition.
