IV. Answer ONE of the following questions based on your personal understanding of American and British literature: (5%)

1. Is there any work of American or British literature similar to the classical Chinese novels like Water Margin (水浒) or Journey to the West (西游记)?If you know one, write a passage of about 100 words to discuss their similarities and differences.

2. To some extent, literature is the reflection of life and society. Can you give 2 examples to illustrate how English literature reflects the English society in a particular period of time?

When I Came Last to Ludlow
Amidst the moonlight pale,
Two friends kept step beside me,
Two honest lads and hale.

Now Dick lies long in the churchyard,
And Ned lies long in jail,
And I come home to Ludlow
