Questions 62 to 66 are based on the following passage.
Loch Ness
East Scotland and West Scotland are almost like two differentcountries with two different capitals—Edinburgh on the east coast, and Glasgow, 70 km to the west. Edinburgh is the official capital of Scotland, and many visitors to the east coast gothere to see the beautiful buildings. Other visitors go to play golf at St. Andrews, 20 km to the north.
Visitors usually go to the west for the beautiful countryside. Thereare mountains (Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Britain), hills, forests andrivers. And, of course, the lochs (the Scottish word for lakes). The lochs begin about 30km north of Glasgow with Loch Lomond. Thisloch is bigger than any other in Scotland, but it is not as famous as LochNess, which is near the port of Inverness.
Loch Ness is huge: 36 km long and 230 m deep. It is famous because many people believe that a monster lives in it. People first wrote about the monster in AD 565, but modernreports began in 1933, when workers were building a big road next to the loch, andused dynamite. A lot of people saw the monsterthat year. Perhaps it swam to the surface to see why there was so much noise! In 1957, someone began “TheLoch Ness Investigation Bureau”, and many people from all over the worldhave taken photographs of things in the water which they say are the monster.
When you see Loch Ness, it is easy to believe in the monster—the water is dark and silent, and there aren’t any flowers orplants on the banks. People say that the monster is ten metres long —orbigger—and has a long neck. Many people believe that the monster is a swimmingdinosaur which came into the loch millions of years ago and lives on the bottomof the loch eating the fish which live there. Others believe that the story isonly a myth tobring tourists to this beautiful part of the world.
Statements:
62. Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland.
63. There arelochs south of Glasgow.

Section A (10 points)
Translate the underlined sentences in the following passage intoChinese. Remember to write the answers on the Answer Sheet.
What is friendship or how should we define it? It is a simple butdifficult question. People have different opinions concerning friendship. InWestern countries, some people regard friendship as a gift from God to us humanbeings. (91)Some of us might say that friendship is trust and loyalty; andothers might say that friendship is a process of sharing, caring, andcommunicating. You know, in the eye of some men of letters, friendship isan interpersonal relationship combining together trust, support, communication, loyalty, and understanding. We can also find similar definitions in somedictionaries. (92)But in our daily life, a writtendescription does not seem to be necessary. Thereason why we choose some people to make friends with may be quitesimple. Perhaps we share common interests, support and love each other. Orperhaps there is no reason at all. We just have fun together. Do you rememberyour childhood? We did not know the exact meaning of friendship, but we madelots of friends.
Making friends is something that we will do all our lives. To manypeople, friendship comes naturally and easily wherever they go, but some peoplego through life with only a few friends. To many students, school is anexcellent place to make friends, because students spend most of theirtime in class or participating in various community activities (like differentclubs), and extracurricular activities (like sports). These are good places tomeet people and to make friends. Nowadays, some people are making friendsthrough the Internet. While this can be an easy place to chat with people, itis not always a safe place to meet people for friendship, as there is probablyno way of knowing whom you are chatting with when you are online. (93)Therefore,you are not to give out your personal information, such as your address, yourphone number, or the name of your school. Besides, we should keep it inmind that friendship does not always come overnight. It may take time.
Once a friendship is established, we should cherish it. We need tothink about how to keep it and how to strengthen it. (94)Even if afriendship is strong, it is still important to work on it once in a while. In order to keep friendship, we should keep in touch with each other. We shouldgive our friends honest and sincere appreciation from time to time and weshould respect their space. We should learn to accept differences, learn how toavoid conflict and when a conflict emerges, we should find a resolution insteadof criticizing, condemning or complaining. (95)And to win friends we shouldbe thoughtful, that is, always try to put ourselves in another person’s shoes.Try not to hurt anybody. When we do not have anything nice to say, do not sayanything at all. Likewise, if we think what we do will hurt somebody, do not doit. In this way, we can avoid hurting others’ feelings and we can avoid ruininga good relationship.

Please write your composition on the Answer Sheet.
【参考范文】
Reading Is an Excellent Way to Increase Your Knowledge
We Chinese havea tradition of enjoying reading. In my opinion, reading is an excellent way toincrease one’s knowledge.
Firstly, booksare the most comprehensive source of knowledge from which we can get all the nourishmentwe need for our mind. Secondly, books are quite cheap and available everywhere. Finally, reading is the most flexible of all the ways to obtain knowledge. Comparedwith listening to radio or watching TV, we can read books whenever and whereverwe like, and we can read as many times as we wish.

However, there is one problem aboutreading. There are all kinds of books in the world, good or bad. Good books arebeneficial to our soul while bad ones are harmful to our mind. Therefore, it isof great importance for us to separate good plants from wild weed
