Bilingualism refers to the use of at least wo languages either by an individual or by a group of speakers, such as the inhabitants of a particular region or a nation. Bilingualism is common in, for example,the Province of Quebec in Canada where both English and French are spoken, and parts of Wales where Welsh and English are spoken.\nWhen two languages or language varieties exist side by side in a community, and each one is used for different purposes, this is called diglossia.
