But they insisted that its(指工业革命) 43 , results during the period from 1750 to 1850 were widespread poverty and misery for the bulk of the English population. By contrast, they saw in the preceding hundred years from 1650 to 1750, when England was still a 46 agricultural country, a period of great abundance and prosperity.

43. A. momentary

B. prompt

C. instant

D. immediate

46. A. broadly

B. thoroughly

C. generally

D. completely

D. immediate

D. completely

分析:本题考查副词的词义辨析,四个选项分别是表示绝对性的B. thoroughly(彻底地)、D. completely(完全地)和表示相对性的A.broadly(广泛地)、C. generally(通常地,总体上地)。

B.thoroughly是指细节上的“彻底”,而D.completely是指整体上的“完全”,显然D.completely更为合适。

It is generally recognized, however, that the introduction of the computer in the early 20th century, 30 , by the invention of the integrated circuit during the 1960s, radically changed the process.

30. A. brought

B. followed

C. stimulated

D. characterized

答案:B. followed

If no surplus is available, a farmer cannot be 47 . He must either sell some of his property or seek extra funds in form of loans. Naturally he will try to borrow money at a low rate of interest, but loans of this kind are not frequently obtainable.

47. A. self-confident

B. self-sufficient

C. self-satisfied

D. self-restrained

答案:B. self-sufficient

Ifno surplus is available, a farmer cannotbe 47. If no surplus is available, a farmer cannot be

If no surplusis available, a farmer cannot be 47.

分述部分:...sell some of his property...

...seek extra funds...

...borrow money at a low rate of interest...

Successful safety programs may 45 greatly in the emphasis placed on certain aspects of the program. Some place great emphasis on mechanical guarding. Others stress safe work practices by observing rules or regulations. Still others depend on an emotional appeal to the worker. But, there are certain basic ideas that must be used in every program if maximum results are to be obtained.

45. A. alter

B. differ

C. shift

D. distinguish

答案:B. differ

Vitamins are similar because they are made of the same elements—usually carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and 45 nitrogen.

45. A. mostly

B. partially

C. sometimes

D. rarely

答案:C. sometimes

Vitamins are similar because they are made of the same elements—usually carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and sometimes nitrogen. They are different 46 their elements are arranged differently.

46. A. in that

B. so that

C. such that

D. except that

答案:A. in that

Getting enough vitamins is essential to life, although the body has no nutritional use for 49 vitamins.

49. A. exceptional

B. exceeding

C. excess

D. external

答案:C. excess

1.首段首句都没有读懂就不要做下去;

2.能够用顺序的方法做对的题目,尽量不要用逆序代入的方法;

答:看选项如果出现:that,which,what,who,whom,than,as,表明考的是从句。

The human nose is an underrated tool. Humans are often thought to be insensitive smellers compared with animals, 1 this is largely because, 2 animals, we stand up right. This means that our noses are 3 to perceiving those smells which float through the air, 4 the majority of smells which stick to surfaces. In fact, 5 , we are extremely sensitive to smells, 6 we do not generally realize it. Our noses are capable of 7 human smells even when these are 8 to far below one part in one million.

Strangely, some people find that they can smell one type of flower but not another, 9 others are sensitive to the smells of both flowers. This may be because some people do not have the genes necessary to generate 10 smell receptors in the nose. These receptors are the cells which sense smells and send 11 to the brain. However, it has been found that even people insensitive to a certain smell 12 can suddenly become sensitive to it when 13 to it often enough.

The explanation for insensitivity to smell seems to be that the bra in finds it 14 to keep all smell receptors working all the time but can 15 new receptors if necessary. This may 16 explain why we are not usually sensitive to our own smells—We simply do not need to be. We are not 17 of the usual smell of our own house, but we 18 new smells when we visit someone else's. The brain finds it best to keep smell receptors 19 for unfamiliar and emergency signals 20 the smell of smoke, which might indicate the danger off ire.

1. A. although

C. but 但是

D. while 然而

The soles are leather, whilethe uppers are canvas.

2. A. above

B. unlike 不同

C. excluding 除……之外

D. besides

原文...this is largelybecause,______animals, we standupright.

3. A. limited

D. confined

2)B项be committed to意为“被交给……;答应承担……

4. A. catching

B. ignoring

C. missing

D. tracking

1)空格前的smells which float through the air与空格后的the majority of smells which stickto surfaces形成对照,且空格前的句子描述的是鼻子的局限性,因此可推断空格处应填一个与上文的perceiving意义相反的词,以使整句的逻辑含义为“只限于嗅到……

5. A. anyway

B. though

C. instead 代替

D. therefore 因此

6. A. even if 虽然,尽管

B. if only 但愿,要是……就好了

C. only if 如果;只有

D. as if 好像,似乎
